Kazakhstan launched the international distance education project Budbeed, the goal of which is to provide equal access to world-class education for children, regardless of their place of residence and level of wealth, Kursiv.kz reports, citing Interfax Kazakhstan.

According to the executive director of the project, Manish Wahie, this platform allows children to receive additional education in Kazakh, Russian and English.

“The platform is based on advanced technologies, everything is gathered in one place. This is a challenge that faces us all how to make learning attractive, ”said Manish Wahie at a press conference on Tuesday.

“We started with Kazakhstan, because the very idea of the project was born in Kazakhstan, and we want to provide access to modern education, first of all, for Kazakhstani youth. Then we plan to implement the project in neighboring countries, ”he added.

The Budbeed online platform is a learning network that covers school subjects. Content presented in accessible formats can be used by students from grades 1 through 9, parents and teachers.

While the program is running in test mode for 40 days, it can be used for free. In the future, the cost of using the platform will not exceed 1.1 thousand tenge per month.

The project operator is the educational company Budbeed (offices in Almaty and Delhi).

The project partners are Encyclopedia Britannica, media corporations CNN and BBC, publisher of dictionaries Merriam-Webster, Rosen Publishing Group, Boclips, Teacher Created Materials and other companies from the USA and Great Britain.

Kazakhstan launches Budbeed online education platform

Content partners of the project were BBC, CNN, Encyclopedia Britannica, Merriam-Webster.

September 18, Almaty hosted the presentation of the international educational project Budbeed. Its goal is to provide students with access to world-class education, regardless of where they live. The project partners were leading international media corporations and publishing houses. Among them are Encyclopedia Britannica, BBC, CNN, Rosen Publishing Group, Boclips, Teacher Created Materials, as well as the publisher of Merriam-Webster dictionaries.

“Our goal is to provide all children in the country with the opportunity to receive additional education in Kazakh, Russian and English. Our online platform is based on advanced technologies and allows you to receive knowledge in an attractive and accessible format for children. Video tutorials, games, quizzes, social networks should motivate children to get new knowledge, ”said Manish Wahie, the founder and CEO of the project.

When creating the platform, the experience of world famous educational and popular science channels was taken into account. Access to Budbeed is possible from any device - smartphones, tablets and PC.

“The problem of equal access to education is one of the key for Kazakhstan. According to the World Bank, the level of spending on education in Kazakhstan corresponds to the average level of OECD countries. But at the same time, in Kazakhstan, as in other Central Asian countries, there is a problem with the teaching staff, which leads to a deterioration in the level of training of students. There is a large gap between leading schools and universities in large cities and educational institutions in rural areas. Our project aims to ensure that all children have equal opportunities for learning, ”said Michael Ross, general manager of Budbeed.

The company’s representatives did not disclose the source of investment, as well as the amount of expenses, however, they mentioned “several large investors”. Kazakhstan became the first country where Budbeed was launched. After passing the test period and debugging all the processes, the authors intend to adapt the project for other countries.

“We started with Kazakhstan, because the very idea of the project was born in Kazakhstan, and we want to provide access to modern education primarily for Kazakhstani youth. Then we plan to implement the project in neighboring countries - Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Ukraine, the Middle East, India and China, ”explained Manish Wahie.

At the first stage, access to Budbeed is open to all Kazakhstani users - within the next 40 days the platform will be free. In the future, the cost of using the platform will be about 1,100 tenge per month. There are two types of accounts - for teachers and for students. The authors of the project expressed their intention to leave free access for teachers. The situation will clear up after working out all the details with the state bodies with which Budbeed plans to actively cooperate.
